We are currently recruiting for a Dam Safety Emergency Management Officer (Full-Time, Permanent) to join our Dam Safety & Engineering team and would love to hear from you!

Location: We are open to having the successful candidate to be baesd either at our Parramatta, Albury, Dubbo or Hunter Hub (Newcastle) office. Warragamba Dam office may also be considered.

 

 

Salary: Starting from $121,185 base + super

 

 

Tenure: Full-Time, Permanent

 

What we are looking for: 

 

 

  • A strong desire to contribute your skills and expertise to our business 
  • Someone who is of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander decent / identifies as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and is accepted as such by the community in which they were born, has lived or currently lives  
  • A commitment to promoting and preserving Aboriginal culture and value 
  • Tertiary qualifications in emergency management, risk management, training and assessment or relevant discipline and/or demonstrated relevant experience.
  • Proven experience in undertaking incident, emergency, crisis management and business continuity activities within operational functions of a multi-site business or organisation
  • Demonstrated experience in preparation of Dam Emergency Plans or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Incident Management Systems and relevant incident command procedures and methods, including emergency support functions, integration of entities into incident management, and roles and responsibilities in incident management.
  • Experience with the delivery of training material and exercise scenarios and the ability to develop training material and supporting documents.
  • Knowledge of current federal and state laws, ordinances, regulations, established procedures, approved principles, practices and organization of emergency management and business continuity work to ensure compliance and best practice.
  • Current NSW Drivers Licence.

What you will work on:

 

As a Dam Safety Emergency Management Officer you will play a critical role in protecting communities and infrastructure by strengthening dam emergency preparedness, building workforce capability, and maintaining robust Dam Emergency Plans that support a safety-first culture. Your key responsibilities include:

 

  • Developing, implementing and undertaking periodic review of Dam Emergency Plans (DEPs) to ensure WaterNSW’s compliance with regulatory requirements and alignment with relevant legislation.
  • Planning, facilitating and evaluating dam safety emergency exercises, incorporating lessons learned and corrective actions. Develop and coordinate training programs to build emergency preparedness capability across the business. 
  • Acting as the primary document controller for emergency planning, ensuring accurate tracking of documents, correspondence, and exercise outcomes. Monitor and report on training and exercise activities to support continuous improvement.
  • Staying up to date with changes in emergency planning standards and legislation, and ensure these are effectively communicated and integrated into WaterNSW’s emergency preparedness activities.
  • Tracking, measuring and reporting on training evaluations, Dam Safety Management System (DSMS) compliance and data to identify actions and improvements to support future planning and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to ensure emergency preparedness activities are well-integrated, understood, and supported across the organisation.
  • Coordination of emergency response activities including appropriate support to the Incident Management Team (IMT).
