The IPROWD program is an initiative designed to assist Indigenous participants throughout NSW to attain academic requirements to join the NSW Police Force or the Australian Federal Police or to gain other ongoing sustainable employment.
The principal aim is to engage Aboriginal people in training that focuses on, and prepares them for, employment outcomes and career opportunities in the NSW Police Force and the Australian Federal Police.
The long running IPROWD program has already assisted more than 1000 participants into a sustainable career in Policing, other Justice and Emergency Services or further education.
The course provides participants with:
- Skills and knowledge to apply for a position with the NSW Police Force and Australian Federal Police
- An excursion to the NSW Police Academy, Goulburn, and Australian Federal Police College, Canberra, ACT
- Support to reach the fitness levels required for the recruitment standards
- Support with applications for NSW Police Force and Australian Federal Police
Eligibility criteria for the program includes:
- Be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and to self-identify and be accepted or known by your community (Proof of Aboriginality/Torres Strait Islander may be requested)
- Have no serious prior criminal history or serious driving offences. (All applicants must give approval for a basic Police screening to be conducted)
- Be a minimum age of 18 years at commencement of the course
- Have or be able to obtain a Driver’s Licence
