The 'Skills for Life' Program provides employability skills, industry-specific training, and facilitates connections with local employers who are eager to provide job opportunities. Run over three weeks and covers three specific areas;  Cultural Engagement, Digital Skills and Industry Exploration.

Cultural Engagement Week - The first week focuses on cultural revitalisation and is delivered by our cultural training partner Gadhungal Marring. This week focusses on participant engagement with culture, community and dveloping their integrity, self-worth and belonging. Some of the activities participants undertake during this week include ‘Welcoming to the ways of our ancestors’ and ‘My Story, Your Story, Our Story’.

Digital Walkabout Week - In the second week, the program shifts its focus to developing digital skills. Participants receive their own laptops and engage in various immersive projects covering practical digital skills, presentation skills, and employment-specific activities like utilising online job boards. What sets this program apart for First Nation participants is the continuation of cultural and community engagement from the first week, seamlessly integrated into the digital skills activities.

Industry Exploration and Jobs Fair Week - The third week provides an in-depth exploration of a specific industry, such as retail or construction, delivering insights and job-specific training. This preparation ensures that participants are immediately ready to pursue entry-level positions. The program actively involves local employers who we invite to attend and showcase their job opportunities and directly connect with particpants to their open jobs and career pathways.

Meet our Star players - What makes this program truly engaging for participants is the opportunity to connext with professional First Nations athletes who co-facilitate the sessions, offering inspiration and guidance to everyone involved. We welcome players from the Richmond Tigers to our event.

For local employers

Skills for Life facilitates connections between local employers and First Nation participants actively seeking employment. Throughout the three-week program, we allocate time for local employers to engage with participants, showcasing available jobs and career pathways.

Our 'Employer Spotlight Sessions' typically run for 1.5 hours, providing an opportunity for employers to address groups of 20-30 participants in a training room environment. Employers usually give a brief presentation about their organization, followed by a Q&A session with participants.

At the program's conclusion, we facilitate connections between interested job seekers and employers for further discussions or interviews.

The upcoming employer spotlight sessions for this event are:

Session 1 - Thursday 11th July - 10.30AM to 12.00PM
Session 2 - Thursday 11th July - 12.30PM to 2.00PM
