The Digital Walkabout Program is designed to equip participants digital skills and confidence specifically aimed at supporting their path to sustainable employment. It is a unique two-week journey that combines cultural engagement with practical digital skills training.
Cultural Engagement Week - The first week focuses on cultural revitalisation and is delivered by our cultural training partner Gadhungal Marring. This week focusses on participant engagement with culture, community and developing their integrity, self-worth and belonging. Some of the activities participants undertake during this week include ‘Welcoming to the ways of our ancestors’ and ‘My Story, Your Story, Our Story’.
Digital Skills Week - In the second week, the program shifts its focus to developing digital skills. Participants receive their own laptops and engage in various immersive projects covering practical digital skills, presentation skills, and employment-specific activities like utilising online job boards. What sets this program apart for First Nation participants is the continuation of cultural and community engagement from the first week, seamlessly integrated into the digital skills activities.
Industry Exploration and Jobs Fair - The program actively involves local employers who we invite to attend and showcase their job opportunities and directly connect with participants to their current job opportunities and career pathways.
Most Digital Walkabout participants, upon completion, express that it's more than just acquiring skills—it's a transformative journey of self-empowerment. The program connects participants to their culture, instilling lasting motivation, and providing essential digital access to support their employment goals.
